Welcome to Mindful Culture Creators! My name is Shawnta` Hooks, and my mission in life is to help people increase their capacity as leaders, innovators, and compassionate human beings. After 20 years of corporate experience, it dawned on me one day that I had never meditated at work, and I had never worked for a company that was intentional about helping their employees improve cognition and creative thinking by integrating mindfulness within corporate culture. This was puzzling because science was finally explaining the drastic improvements meditators experienced in relation to focus, agility, resilience, compassion, and strategic thinking.
In 2020, while working for Synchrony Bank, I started MCC during COVID as an internal grass roots movement to create space for employees to learn about the benefits of mindfulness in the workplace. I began giving talks, sharing my personal journey to mindfulness, as well as teaching and leading meditations at work. Pretty quickly, leaders from all over the globe were reaching out to me requesting workshops that used mindfulness techniques to address their unique business problems. The feedback was astounding, and MCC grew from 5 employees to 300 employees within months. Within six months of starting MCC, I'd spoken to thousands of employees, and their message was consistent - my workshops and monthly group sessions were finally helping them understand meditation because I was using the language they understood as data analysts, technologists, and business professionals. I've developed over a dozen workshops that use mindfulness techniques as a solution to solve complex problems - from impostor syndrome to racism.
I work with leaders who really care about the mental wellbeing of their teams, and are passionate about transforming the way we think. We spend so much time in a fear, and it stifles creative and cognitive thought. This limits the fulfillment of corporate strategy, and leads to an over stressed workforce. The world has changed tremendously since the global pandemic, forcing us all to embrace vulnerability and belonging. Developing a mindful culture enables transformational change from the inside, and this creates competitive advantages in the marketplace. Demystifying mindfulness, and combining these science based techniques with real business problems is my absolute favorite thing to do, and I am so excited to partner with you to help your employees finally see the unlimited potential that lives inside of them.
